EPA 608 Type I · Recovery Requirements · Hard
Recovery equipment built before November 15, 1993 is used on a small appliance. How much refrigerant must it recover?
Answer: A. 80%, whether or not the compressor runs.
- A80%, whether or not the compressor runs.✓ Correct
- B90% if the compressor runs, 80% if not.
- C70%, as older equipment is exempt.
- D100% of the nameplate charge.
Why A is right
Under 40 CFR 82.156(b), equipment made before November 15, 1993 must recover 80% of the refrigerant in a small appliance, whatever the compressor's condition. The 90%/80% split applies only to equipment made on or after that date. With either, evacuating the appliance to 4 inches of mercury vacuum also meets the rule.
